Grupo 5 is one of the most important and influential cumbia orchestras in Latin America. Founded on January 31, 1973, in Monsefú (Chiclayo, Peru) by brothers Elmer and Víctor Yaipén Uypán, the group is now led by brothers Elmer, Andy, and Christian Yaipén, the founder’s sons.
With over 50 years of career, Grupo 5 is known as “El Grupo de Oro del Perú” (“The Golden Group of Peru”), a title earned through countless gold records, awards, and a consistent presence at the top of tropical music.
